News 6 for kicks - ATVNews.com bigbore shootout
Posted by canadianviking on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 (06:40:51) (1935 reads)

This year we were excited to test the big bores. Compared to last year there are three new machines in this class. Kawasaki, Suzuki and Polaris all had new offerings that we had ridden previously, but not in comparison with each other. It was certainly exciting to see all the machines lined up, warmed up and ready to hit the trails.

News A reminder to slow down
Posted by CanadianViking on Friday, September 17, 2004 (06:19:53) (671 reads)

Slow down already...as posted by KG:

For the second time this month I was nearly hit head on by someone going waaayy too fast on the trails at Pine Creek in the Wayne. The first time I was off my ATV taking a nature break when I heard a roar heading my way. I got on my ride to move it out of the way but before I could even start it the person was bearing down on me at 50 mph or more. I had no where to go. If I jumped off I took the risk of having my ATV knocked into me on foot. I figured my best bet was to ride it out and hope for the best. This person didn't see my until he was about 20 yards away. We're talking a Sportsman hauling big A right in my face. He locked it up and slid to a halt about a foot from my bumper. Whew!

Today I was cruising over one of the million water breaks on the trail when I Predator came over a rise no more than 10 yards in front of me. They were doing at least 30 over a rise where they couldn't see more than 15 feet. I locked up my ride so hard I nearly flew over the handlebars. The Predator slid to a halt right beside me. If I hadn't jammed my brakes I would have had that Predator for lunch.

Jeeze people slow down. I'm not saying anyone here is hauling A like these people were. Not many people do. But there are some idiots who think they are the only people on the trail. Or they think everyone is young like they are and will heal quick if they have a wreck. It doesn't work that way for us old folks. Likely as not I will never get over a crash like that. People who are 20 just don't understand what it's like to be 50.

Tell your buddies to slow it down. Tell your club friends. Post it on every board on the web. People are dying from this crap. They will take our toys away if we don't put a lid on this stuff. And I don't want to be riding a wheelchair instead of my Polaris. I don't want to have to stay home because the idiots on the trails won't slow down. I don't want to plop down cash to buy a new ride because my insurance won't pay enough for a wrecked ride.

It isn't fair and it isn't right to fly around a blind curve so fast you can't stop. It isn't fair to put it on others to get out of your way or else.

Try to remember there are little babies on ATV's out there. I saw a kid not more than 18 months old out there today riding with his mom and dad all on one ATV. There are some old jokers out there too. You're gonna kill people if you don't slow down.

I like to ride fast as much as the next guy but I do it responsibly. I don't fly around blind curves especially on Saturday afternoon when there are three times as many people on the trails. Slow down and live. Slow down before you kill.
