News Military to get aquatic ATVs?
Posted by atvaddict on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 (12:15:33) (1402 reads)

I read that a Kiwi inventor called Alan Gibbs (the creator of the aquada, hummdinga and the quadski) has won a US Department of Defence (DOD) Foreign Comparative Test contract to evaluate his High Speed Amphibian technology for military purposes. Took at a look at their website (http://www.gibbstech.co.uk/military.php) and this is what it said - it has some amazing images of how the ATV could be used in a military setting.

Gibbs Technologies Wins US Military FCT Contract

New Zealand and UK-based Gibbs Technologies Ltd., the world’s only High Speed Amphibian (HSA) technology specialist, today announced that it has won a US Department of Defence (DOD) Foreign Comparative Test contract to evaluate its existing HSA technology for military purposes.

The US Navy will initially test the military viability of Gibbs’ exciting technology to ascertain its capability and operational limits. The vehicles being evaluated comprise:

• Aquada, an amphibian car which set the water speed record for amphibian craft, as well as the world record for crossing the English Channel
• Humdinga, a five-seater, four-wheel drive utility vehicle capable of travelling up to 128 kph on land and 72 kph on water
• Quadski, the recently launched high-speed amphibian quad bike.

Did you know there's a secret conspiracy among ATV manufacturers to brainwash people into becoming motorized barbarians bent on the destruction of nature sheerly for their own pleasure? Yeah, neither did I. But thanks to a report by the Izaak Walton League of America titled Caught in the Treads: Unethical Advertising in the ATV Industry, I have been enlightened to the truth.

News 500 reasons to ride - 500cc utility class comparision
Posted by canadianviking on Tuesday, August 02, 2005 (06:00:08) (1557 reads)

ATV Magazine has posted a 500 class utility comparision:

As late as the mid '90s, the largest displacement 4x4 you could buy was 400ccs. Now the 500cc four-bys are considered mid-size! But they sure can do a lot of work, they’re sporty and they’re a heck of a lot of fun. Plus, they’re much less expensive than the machines in the 700cc class.
