Shocked During my and Wildcards recent journey to find a couple (dependable) mini quads without making our better halves too mad, we did a LOT of research to ensure we were making the right decision. I thought I would pass along some of the stuff we learned in order to help others in the same boat.

1. Don't buy a quad that has a Kazuma motor. Yes, they are identical to the very tough and dependable Honda 110 motors a lot of us grew up with, BUT they are made with inferior materials, and workmanship! I'm sure there are some out there that are holding up, but they probably don't leave the yard. We wanted a quad to handle the ABUSE I knew our boys would give them! Do a quick search of the net, and you'll find a mound of bad info on the Kazuma motors.

2. Be very careful of the no name quads. I know there some good ones out there, but seperating the good from the bad is difficult. Some incorporate pressed board for brake pads. Guess what happens the first time your child goes threw a puddle?! I have noticed these type of brake pads associated with the Kazuma motors quite often.

3. Check out the suspension. Then main thing I would stay away from is the rocker type front suspension (Some Dinlis). This consists of a SOLID bar between the front hubs that just rocks from side to side. No direct impact softening. Other things to consider are; are the shocks adjustable? If the quad manufacturer went so far as to put adjustable shocks on, I tend to think they probably put other quality parts on. The best suspension set up I have seen is on the Kasea quads. They use a clevis style front hub. Very strong. Great if your child is gonna do a fair amount of jumping.

4. Ground Clearance. This is hard to find on a mini quad. The Sundiro (Madami) quads me and Wildcard bought have the most ground clearance I've seen on a mini. This is due to 19" tires. They have had very little problem with ground clearance. Watch out though, they will get saddle bagged on some big quad ruts in a mud hole and spray mud all over you! I found out the hard way. Confused Crying

5. Aesthetics. Don't judge a mini on its looks. Some are just polished turds! Looks don't matter when they are sitting in the back of the garage broke! Also some of the lesser quality minis have poor plastic on them. They crack very easily.
The Jag minis are awesome lookin' quads! The motor is good. The suspension is good. BUT The rear axle is puny and covered with a sheet metal sleeve.

6. Transmissions. I think CVT autos are the best for the kids. I want my son to learn how ride a manual, but for starting out I think there are many other things they need to learn first. Besides kids are hard on clutches and manual trannies.

7. Lights. Headlights and brake lights are good to have. Most don't have them, but are easily added. Some that do have a headlight are worthless. I would rather add my own. For a headlight we bought a driving light kit for an auto ($20) and mounted it to the handle bars with a toggle switch located on the fender. Works GREAT!

8. Parts/Service. Perhaps I should have put this at the top, because this is more important than some realize. Getting parts for a lot of the off brands is difficult to impossible. The dealer won't tell you that! This is one of the major reasons we choose the Madami/Sundiro minis for our sons. All engine/drivetrain/suspension parts are interchangeable with a Polaris Predator 90!!!!! Parts like air filters, brake pads are inevitably going to have to be changed. Oh yeah, brake pads don't like serious mudding. But they are easy to change and are easily gotten for $16-$25 at your local Sundiro or Polaris dealer.

The bottom line
- If you have the money and don't mind spending it, buy one of the big four's minis. Other wise buy a Madami or Sundiro for almost half price. They are EXACTLY the same as the Polaris Predator 90, except for the plastic, and tires. I was amazed to see just how identical these were! Cool In some ways I think our Sundiros are better.
Our boys have put many miles on these quads already, and they have held up GREAT. I am very satisified. I would buy another one in a heartbeat if I needed another one.

I hope this helps, I'm sure I 've forgotten something but me or Wildcard would be glad to answer any questions, or clear anything up.

Oh yeah, here is a couple other things:
Buy your child a helmet!!!
Supervise your child!
Don't buy your child a quad if he/she isn't responsible enough!!!!

Happy Riding!!! Watching the kids on these quads has been an awesome experience!!!

What about the Alpha sports LG-90? I talked to a dealer this weekend and it seems to be similar to the Bombardier 90. it has all the options of the ones you mentioned.

Anyone else had any experience with Apha sports youth ATVs? It seems like a decent deal for only $1199 out the door.

howdy j's in ak i have had no personal dealings with alpha sport but have only heard good things about the alpha . do a bit of research into who makes the alpha . many of these minni quads are made by nusun a combined tech company with honda. they build the 90cc bombs ,polaris , and i am told they build the 90cc honda . most of there parts are interchangeable . many of the performance parts for e ton and kasea will interchange with the nusun . nusun is marketed under the the names sudiro, madami sunray, & nusun . our boy's are giving them a good test and we are happy with our quads . good luck

Cool.
Thanks for the info wildcard...
I wanted to get the kiddo a Sportsman 90 so he could be like dad. But they are hard to find and are priced high.

I think we are going to go with the Apha 90 cause it is a great deal and it sounds like parts should be easy to find..

Yeah, The Sportsman 90 is pretty cool! But the price and a money hungry dealer drove me away from getting one. Glad I got the Sundiro!
Your kid(s) will love the Alpha!

I am new to this forum......I looked for info on miniquads when I purchased my toys..............I purchased 2 machines.......one is a kasea 150 quad.....the other is a kasea dune buggy 150cc.........I have run them for 5 months......the kids have used them alot.......I had to weld a part on the suspension on the quad and the battery lasted about 4 weeks ( have had to kick start it since and the kid can't kick it hard enough......other than that I have enjoyed the quad...has good power for kids and has held up well.....though it rattles alot.....the plastic is cheap and not connected well.

Happy the dune buggy the kids have really enjoyed riding........it has been fun to ride.....they will pile 3-4 of them in there and go for hours.......BUT..... Mad ...........after about 4 months of using I noticed that Ihad to put a bit of oil in each time i ran it.......now it has started blowing the blues..........not sure what is up.....i have contacted the dealer with no response........we will see today if I get a response. I hope that this will be covered under the 6 month engine only warantee.....my guess is that it will not be covered and I will have to rebuild it myself......I just hope that I can get the parts that I need from kasea................
anyway...........I probably should have stuck witha honda....my 8 year old has a 03 honda xr50.........best kids bike ever.........love this little bike.....maybe i like it so much because I run errands on it.......

anyway
thought i would put some info out there........kids have loved the buggy but now the engine has problems.

I am skipping the spellcheck.

Welcome Horse!

I haven't come across much info on the net about the 150 Kaseas. Everybody seems to have real good luck out of the 90's, but that doesn't mean the 150 can't have its problems. I hope they get ya fixed up and runnin again!

Be careful Dukee, the Yamoto atvs have Kazuma motors. Stay away from these!

has anyone on this site owned or know anyone that has owned one of these. i have read over and over how bad these are (kazuma)
i know on atvconnect....... they are really pushing people to buy these.
but they are preferred vendors so draw your own conclusion.
i have to say i like the opinions on this site because i see no hidden agenda (mini-quad sales) . i need a little (50cc) pit quad. obviously a cheap one and it won't be trail rode or raced just want one that starts and has no breakdown issues. please everyone give me your opinions on what you like. oh by the way i'm 6'1 260lb and racks would be nice but i will install some and haul more weight on the racks. so i will torture the drive train. it has to be small, limited hauling space is an issue.

thanks

Well, you'll hear me pushing the Polaris clones because they are cheap, faily reliable and have parts available.

folks please bare with us the info is on the way with a review of many minni quads . its taking us a bit longer to get the articles up and running than we thought . we are trying to do a very thurough evaluation of them . in order to be fare and even we are puting them through there paces . what we are covering is the 90 and 150 cc quads something with trail ability . you will also see a few reviews in the outpost on some bigger quads by the same companies . there are alot of neet things happening right now with the minni quad industry and we will do are best to give a good fair review of every brand we can . as for the fifty cc i am with samson on the available parts thing thats a major concern with many of them . we won't be doing much if anything on the 50cc quads as most of them are more for yard machines rather than trail capable do to many safty features .

My 5yr old son has an alpha sport 50 mini cobra, and if im not mistaken the thing as far as parts go is almost identical to the polaris 50. He has had it since x-mas and the thing runs great. I just took off the metal tab off the cdi box and the thing moves alot faster now. The price was also about 500 to 600 cheaper than the kawaski or suzuki which is the same machine, and it looks a whole lot better.
