ya i got a 08 can am outlander 500 and it sounds like the front shocks are over extending and making a bad banging noise anyone know what this could be

You're describing exactly what was (is?) an ongoing problem with a number of the original 400s which use the same strut system - when they started hammering like that, they were toast. From your post, it looks like Can-Am still hasn't figured out a solution to this. I seem to remember Elka or some other suspension builder made replacements but they cost many $$$ and the jury was still out as to their durability. Do a search for "Outlander struts" on this forum and you'll find lots of info on this. Bring it up with your dealer to see if they'll cover it on warranty - doubtful, but some are better than others. This issue was right up there with the crappy voltage regulators on the 400s. Sheesh.

The shocks will be covered under the base warranty if taken care of within the first 6 months.
