Just wanted to bounce this off of some others to see if I'm on the right track.
Bike: 2004 Sportsman 400 4x4
Problem: No electric start
Battery is good and fully charged (lives on a trickle charger/floater)
Also lives under a carport and under a quad cover.
I start it up once a month'ish during the winter to keep things lubed up and clean.
I tried it yesterday and got a few clicks from the solenoid but no start (sounded like an almost dead battery)
I checked the battery and found it full
Gave it a quick pull start and it started right up as normal
Dash was still comming on and working appropriately
I pulled to boots that protect the solenoid connections and found them severely coroded.
I'm normally meticulous with my maintenence, can't believe I never thought to look under those boots.
Removed the wires to the solenoid, cleaned the posts and wire connections and reconnected.
Now there is no solenoid click, no dash lights, I jumpered the two posts and connected a circuit tester to find the downstream post has no power at all. Wire comming from the batter has plenty of power.
Long story short...
Am I correct that the culprit is probably a bad solenoid?
Sure hope it's not the starter or switch.

the downstream post of the STARTER solenoid WON'T have power to it until the key is turned on and the solenoid is picked up...
explain what and how you jumpered and how you used the circuit tester?..
can you get the solenoid to pick-up when you jumper from the battery side large post (hot side) of the solenoid to the small control (starter wire) connecting terminal of the solenoid?... This would bypass the key/ignition switch/kill switche.
