Unfortunatly someone pushing then KILL button dosen't work with me. Every time any of us pulls up to a Rotten Ronnies an plops down or $8.50 we "KILL", we just in a more cowardly and lazy way pay some eles to take care of that Safeway Elk for us. Sorry!
Now I might be trying to stir up crap. icon_mrhappy
Well now I fully agree that anyone who eats meat or uses animal products is in no position to look down upon those who hunt and consume their kill.

But how do you consider eating meat killed by someone else 'cowardly'?

Is it therefor 'brave' to slap on all your Cabelas camo gear, drive your 4X4 pickup to the back country, take a high powered rifle into the bush on an ATV, and kill some animal? Sure, grab your medal at the door, and watch the closing spring, it's pretty strong. Yellow-badgrin

Just imagine, all those cowards shopping in the meat department at the supermarket. Yellow-biggrin Do they even know how cowardly and lazy they are?

Sure, hunting is fine, but don't go imagining yourself any braver than the next guy for doing it.

I just making a point that if we prefer to do it ourselves "tolerating you murderous bastards" is amazingly silly. Cattle living in concentration camp conditions is much more inhumane. Wild game don't spend a lifetime or 2-3 years standing in there own *beep*. Wild game still have the chance to escape. Wild game aren't bred with zero intelligence unlike cattle just to walk into the back of a cattle truck when the clock says your times up in some kind of OK whatever death march. If I had the choice to be either I would prefer to run and take my odds with that bullet rather than being strung up by my ankles before taking the bolt.
I believe my choice tastes better, is heather for you and is much less cruel. If you think I'm wrong no problem I'll play the other murderous *beep* option.
That is a far more Liberal view than my concern over what use to be good hunting opportunities and wildlife habitat.

Anyway I am not creating something here to trade insults. The lazy comment may have been a little much but every body believes we walk into the bush and just start blastin. You have no idea just how much work it takes to be lucky and then the work to follow. I just don't care for this cruel killer view. I'll do my thing, you do yours.

I'm not a hunter but I am not against it at all either. Go ahead and hunt.

I dont know about every one elses areas where they live and play but around here there are way more places to hunt and do whatever else than there are places to legally ride an ATV. It always seems like when some one wants to do something the ATV's are the first that have to go.
And I cant count how many times I have seen game on the trail. Deer, Turkey and just about anything else that lives around here. And this is even in some pretty heavily ATV used areas.

One thing to consider, at least here in my home state is that the price you pay for a hunting permit pays for most of the upkeep of public hunting areas. You need a park permit to drive into things like the public forest, but no huntin is allowed in there. Therefore, to me, the hunters should have priority, at least during hunting season, as they are footing the bill. This may or may not be the situation in other states, though.

Not to start an argument, but speaking for MY cattle, and MY cattle alone:
They do NOT spend a lifetime standing in a little pen in their own waste. For all but maybe a month, they are in large, open grassy areas. In the winter, they graze the cornfields, and are fed plenty of hay, enough to keep in good condition. The reason they go willingly where I want to move them has more to do with the fact that they trust me because they haven't been treated cruelly, than any other reason.
I've helped out a little at a local packing house, and the cattle they processed were never strapped to anything, let alone hung by their ankles before they were slaughtered.
Again, not trying to argue, but I deal with enough people, who, without ever setting foot on my place, comment on how 'cruel' I am to my livestock.
I equate that with someone uninformed about ATV riders saying that ATVers tear up the wilderness. While it may be true in a few cases, in general, no.

No one enjoys ending the life of any wild game or even a cow I'm sure (unless you have a serious problem of course). It's sustinance and the quality of the meat that interests me. A prize bull is nice to get every couple years but if I get drawn for a cow I'll take that also. You get out to make sure your gun is hitting the mark early in the season for a clean kill and when God chooses to bless you you look up to the heavens and give thanks. I've thanked him many times.

This thread could get ugly .

I am a hunter ,trapper and fisherman and by no means a wanton killer that enjoys or takes pleasure from the death of any of mother natures creatures . Yes I harvest and I have for most of my life and some of those harvests were critters I personally raised such as beef, pork and poultry .

There is very much of a difference in how some of us put food on our table . Some prefer to do it by cruising the grocery store aisle and likely can't conscionably stomach the thought of how an animal gave its life but there are others much like myself , that do not fear our conscience or thoughts because we truly " understand " what it means to be a hunter and gatherer and that goes back to the beginnings of time itself .

Hunters utilize the bush for such a small period of time during the year and are asking for such a small window to be left to do their thing .

With the advent in popularity of ATV's and all these super duper mods being done they leave quite an impact on the habitat and enviroment in their wake . You can't deny that or if you do then please explain to me the continual growing needs for bigger, meaner tires ,lift kits .snorkells etc,etc .

While your roaring around silting up streams with gravel beds that fish spawn in are you considering how it affects the eco-system ?

Habitat loss with the population growth makes it harder on all,,, but ATVers have to take responsibility too and giving the antis amo by running loud pipes or anything else is not helping and taking shots at hunters nor respecting their short time in the bush to harvest, even alienates that support .

I'm sure glad I have 4x4 now because the places I used to go on the trike would not be accessible and even those are getting harder because of the constant battering from big heavy ripping machines out having fun .

No it won't. Someone's got their eye on it... Wink

I don't think the folks on here would appreciate the sweeping "you" references you make...as if each and every ATVer has a rip-snortin' modded up mud-bogger of a quad who takes them out to rip up prime hunting and fishing habitats every chance we get.

At least I for one don't care for the generalization...I never once fit in the category of ATV rider you describe.

Same goes for hunters...what if I lumped all hunters into the scum sucking 'road hunter' category?...cruising the dirt roads waiting for a deer to jump out so that you could put your coffee down, jump out of the warm cozy cab, whip out the rife, lean over the hood, and blamo. Does that sound like most hunters? Probably not.

Most of the 'hunters' I know just want to use their ATV to pack stuff in & out, and NONE of the ATVers I run with digs around in mud except for specifically approved areas, or runs around with overly loud pipes, or drinks & rides.

Yes, I am an old fuddy duddy.
