I'm seriously thinking of putting together a pheasant hunt for some of my buddies and myself in either Kansas or Nebraska, probably in real early December of this year. It'll be a 4 day hunt and I'm wondering if any of you has had any experience, good or bad, with pheasant hunting outfits in either of those states. I'd like to hear about either type of experience so I can follow up, or not bother calling them, depending on what kind of experience you've had. Thanks in advance.

UncleBuck, I live in southwest Kansas and will say I would not pay an outfitter to hunt pheasants.

If you wait a little while there will be a listing on the Kansas F&G site with all the land that is in the "Walk-in Hunting" Program. In certain areas of the state, there is a LOT of land and it is some very good hunting. This will also open some other opportunities to maybe get onto some neighboring ground.

www.comstocklodge.com/

This place is close to me, if anyone wants info in Nebraska.

Here is another one, that might be a little cheaper, and close to a lake:

Guys I talked to said that the 'wild' pheasants are pretty hard to find, but the outfitters that release them have plenty.
Just gotta decide if you want to walk all day, and maybe not get a bird, or if you want a lot of shooting.

Wild bird populations in my area have been unreal the past 3 years and the way it is looking right now, it is going to be another great year.

Im sorry, but pen raised birds are a lot like the "Tall Fence Hunts" for big game. There is hunting, and then there is shooting. Me I will take the hunting any day, its not about the number of birds or animals, its about the time spent in the field.
