A person who owns a 2008 outlander with v2 engine is haveing a big problem with his idle. When he starts the engine the idle varies from 1500 up to 3500 without pressing on the gas. The dealer tried all sorts of thing and a brp tec is trying to rectifie the problem but without any results. The computer blew 3 times which the changed and he still has the problem. Any one here have an idea what is going on with his quad.He filmed the reaction of his quad and posted it at the quadnet2 forum.

Don't know about the Can-Am electricals {yet} but in any motorcycle or marine application it is very unusual for a computer to fail unless there is a voltage surge, or perhaps a poor ground. From the descripition of his problem, I would suspect a throttle position sensor.

If you want to see what is happening with his ATV and sinse I don't know how to do a direct link go to www.quadnet2.com and once in the site clic Forum quad at the top left. Then go to bombardier/BRP forum and then choose the title JE ME LANCE DANS LE CINEMA J,AI FAIT UN VIDEO and look at the black print to see some videos made by scoubi. This is a french site so if you have questions just ask me.

I had High idle issues on the Rinny, the problem was a dirty TPS/Idle control valve.

From looking on the '07-'08 online BRP manual, I see there is a IBV (Idle Bypass Valve). Page 213 in that manual reveals it's location is on the throttle body.

For the 1 on the honda I used a aerosol brake cleaner to clean it up PJ1 I think, so something similar.

The honda issue would it'd start normal, then go into a very high idle when it was hot out, and engine already warmed up. The retainer to hold it in place honda also used tamper-proof torx head screws. Sears or your local auto tool center should have these. Using the brake cleaner fixed the problem.

I hope this won't be a nightmare for Can-ams too, as it's a bit harder to get to.

This link goes to Rincon Riders, but kind of explains how to remove clean the valve.

This would be my guess as a possible culprit for the high idle on the bomb. This 1st happened to me out in the middle of nowhere. I tapped on the top of the valve, and it helped. Once I got back to civilization I got the correct sockets to remove and clean it.

I did mine twice, once when I got the correct tools, then before my next trip to the high country as a P&M.

Now the Can Am manual states something about resetting it. With the rinny I removed it, cleaned it, put it back in and all worked great.
