Hi fellas,

I'm rewiring my trailer batteries with some welding cable and installing a better converter that'll treat the batteries nicer. Anyone know where you can pick up one of these crimpers for heavy gauge wire?

Thanks Kev, I'll check em out on Monday. Do they have the stuff out to browse through ala Princess or do they just have a desk and you ask for your parts?

Excellent place to deal, not too much on display but their catalog is on line here...

www.greggdistributors....alogue.htm

Good info on power converters here...

www.bestconverter.com/

I would recommend the Xantrex ones.

For as much use as you'll get out of it you could just drill a good size hole in the side of a large nut and use a rounded off bolt to do the press work. Mac was selling them for the $40-50 mark that you would lay on a work bench and drive with a hammer instead.
For my race car building days I use to fill the copper end cup with molten solder and drop the cable in.
Couple alternatives for no $$.

A rounded punch will do the same thing. That is what I use.

Theres a few different types, just use a vise and crimp it and solder or buy the crimpong tool that looks like a giant set of bolt cutters then you can do it on the trailer or in the area whrere the other hammer type will fit

We have a crimping tool at work that you could borrow if you want. It does several wire sizes. Just let me know.

Here's another site that has the vise/hammer/press crimper:

www.evparts.com/prod-TL2923.htm

a bit spendy for just a few crimps.
