When starting my atv (92 BB 350) it occasionally just clicks and does nothing. The clicking seems to be coming from a solenoid in front of the battery. But when you roll it and pop it into gear without pop starting it, then shift it into neutral it will start. It will also start if you pop start it on a hill. what i would like to know is how to find out what this is so i can repair it and... sadly sell the machine to buy my new quad. Thanks for your input!

It sounds to me like you have a neutral start switch that needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Thank you I'll take a look into it and see if that is the culprit.

Also check to make sure your battery connections are clean. A dirty connection will do this also.

Well after taking off the wheel, the rear rack, and the rear fenders, I fully cleaned and lubed all the connections to and from the battery, plus all the relays and switches surrounding the regulator. Still I had nothing. ah but alas there was a soulution! I got a little angry at it and rigorously moved the kill switch back and forth, and voila! it started right up. hopefully that was the culprit.
