We are getting real close to buying another side/side to replace my 2006 Rhino that I sold this spring.

I would like to pick up the side/side in the next couple months so I have some time to customize & upgrade before hitting the trails in the spring.

When I got the Rhino in 2005 it was a pretty easy decision, the Rhino owned the market and there wasn't alot of competition. Now I am finding the decision harder as there are a bunch of excellent products on the market now. I'm not complaining, choice is a great thing for the consumer.

I've narrowed it down to the 2009 Rhino 700, 2009 Teryx 750 and 2009 Prowler 1000.

2009 Rhino 700
Pros: known reliability, tons of after market accessories, size (fits on all the trails I like to ride)
Cons: not many...could use a few extra CCs, I don't like the factory doors (I prefer leg minders)

2009 Teryx 750
Pros: excellent engine, suspension and braking, decent selection of accessories, size (a little wider than the Rhino but still able to fit the trails)
Cons: Only second model year, are the bugs out? hood does not open

2009 Prowler 1000
Pros: 950cc H2 engine, resigned suspension for improved stability, comfort
Cons: size (will it fit on the trials?), first year with 950H2 and new suspension, lack of after market accessories (compared to Rhino and Teryx).

The Polaris RZR would be on most peoples list but the box area is too small for our dogs so it won't work for us (I otherwise love the platform and it would be at the top of the list). Ranger XP is also very nice (especially the 2009s) but I find the seat/drivers position to be uncomfortable (my back was sore after 30 minutes). I would like to check out the Honda Big Red MUV but I see it fitting on the trails I like to ride.

I would appreciate some feed back from owners of the above models and hear what you think are the pros and cons of each model.

You owe it to yourself to at least look at the BigRed.

Thomas, tough choice,
I love the idea of having a proven Rhino but I would also take a close look at the Teryx. For a more sporty ride the RZR would be at the top of the list (even though it is a Popo) IMO BigRed would be slower and lumbering but probably more reliable. I have encountered very few Prowlers on the trails.
BigHorns would be the first mod.

660 - have you seen the Big Red in person? any feed back on it yet? They are only sold at "power dealers" here in Canada and the nearest is 3 hours away.

Toadman - I love the Bighorns but I am thinking about trying out the new Maxxis Ceros UTV tire.

STG - great advice! I've got seat time in an 2008 Rhino, 2008 Teryx and 2008 Prowler 700. The only one that has made significant changes is the Prowler, the 2009 1000cc is almost a complete redesign and is apparently a huge improvement over previous versions.

The only thing that would make me hesitate with the Prowler is the size...they are huge

I agree, that is my biggest concern about the Prowler also. Doesn't matter how many cc's you have if it won't fit down the trail!

although I have to admit, turning radius is probably just as important a consideration as width (atleast on the trails I ride).

Very true...well my vote would be the rhino although if your after cc's it will be the least powerful of all the ones you are considering

I looked over a Teryx... nice machine. A local TV station is giving it away to a lucky winner this Sunday... I'm hoping to win it, so maybe I'll be able to give you a the long term scoop on it. LOL

Anyhow, the hood not opening could end up being a pain in the butt. Doesn't make sense to me.

Hard to beat the reliability of a Rhino... and Yamaha in general.

Yeah the rhino will be reliable and imo has the best belt drive of the ones you are considering. Not to mention all the goodies avaialable for them

My neighbour has tried the Rhino & Prowler for 2 week periods, granted neither were brand new but he loved the Rhino as did I when I drove it, I can only imagine a new 700 would be very nice. The Prowler he absolutely hated, it wouldn't fit his trails, with an enclosed cab it was so loud you couldn't talk, & was a brute to steer, as said these unit were 1-2 yrs old & may have been improved on?? Myself I would smile right into the sunset on a new Rhino icon_pelvic_thrust2

No comment on the Terex?? Have never even seen one. Does Kawy still use the old "slip the belt" CVT system Yellow-rolleyes ??

Took Mrs. CV around today to look at the Rhino, Teryx and Prowler (700, not a 1000). Had another good look at all the models that we are considering (just on the dealer floor, no riding).

As much as its a great product, I think we've taken the Prowler off the list. Just too wide for the trails we ride.

So it looks like the Rhino and Teryx and neck/neck right now....

I have the feeling that the rhino will end up the winner an i don't even have to see the poll results.
Good luck.

I did not get the try one yet. However the Honda Big Red MUV looks well built...

Any how.

Best of luck with your choice.
