Soooo... The Rebels ride is now a CQS ride?...
Not that it really matters... just asking..
I will be unable to take part as the wife and I will be flying out to Vancouver for a week to visit family.. |
Yes it has become a CQS event Tom.
Sorry that you will miss this one.
Hope to ride with you again soon though.
Don |
I hope to get out when we are back...
It seems that the Rebels ride and vacations seem to conflict for me..
I look forward to riding with all you soon.

Bradlindy2008, welcome to the Frontier and to the CQS event!
Well, with less than a week to go to the annual ride, all the trails are "currently" cleared of deadfall and there is a stock of cut firewood at the lake.

For the new folks, here is how to get to the South Ghost Staging Area.
Some people meet at the Cochrane Tim Horton's and convoy from there. It is just under an hour drive. Don picks up our drinks there and leaves early.
Here is a trail map of the area, Margaret Lake is at WP#140 where the BBQ will be held.
We use FRS radios on the trail for inter-group communications. Typical channels are 3 (3-0) or 7 (7-0). A tailgunner typically insures that the group stays together and in communication with the ride leader when possible.
There are typically 2-3 different groups with the same destination - Fast, Intermediate and Family and we try to leave in that order to minimize dust and group interactions. Your responsibility is to insure that the rider BEHIND you is fully aware of the group's direction of travel at each major trail fork or intersection. If it is not completely obvious which way to go, stop and wait for the next rider, not only for you to see them but so they see YOU. The ride leader will periodically stop to re-group and account for each rider.
Supplies, food and equipment will be transported in by Don and a few others from approximately at 4-Corners which is WP#127 west on Waiparous Valley Road along the river.
Typical path on the way out is to go west on Lesueur to WP#13 then north to WP#127 (4-Corners) at the river, west along the river to WP#129, then back NE to WP#139 and to Margaret Lake.
Return trip can either go back along the river, which is the easiest path, or east on Mockingbird to Ghost Cross Country at WP#141, then south to 4-Corners again. We continue south down Meadow Creek to a large open field at WP#89, then SE down Lost Knife.
BTW, crossing the river again west of WP#129 is the trail to Waiparous Falls. It is about an hour ride each way with seasonal closures (4x4s only?) Sept 1 - Oct 31. Some awesome views in there.
Hope this helps some of the new folks.

Hope to make it this year, will probably be at Tim's between 7:00 and 8:00. Don't know the trails good enough to be a leader but can be a tail gunner if needed.

I have to pick my quad up, I have had to store it else where. But hoping to be at Tim's bright and early. I'll update tonight if something goes wrong.
