I'm a Firefox user and recently tried the new Google Chrome browser. I'm impressed. Many sites definitely load snappier. Give it a whirl. And check this out to see how bad IE rates when compared to the rest.

Smaller numbers are better:

Ronin, how long have you been running it?
I was thinking I'd sit back and wait for the bugs to work out...but then again, I'd just keep using IE and would be putting up with a terrible browser so what's the harm...
I don't mind firefox but it's not as intuitive as IE (or maybe I was just more used to IE). I run firefox on one laptop and IE on another.

1 day Tim. Its beta but I've done all my usual stuff on it today with no issues. Something to keep an eye on if you aren't comfy with betas.
You definitely get used to the individual browsers. However just think of all those extra seconds you'd essentially be adding to your life by dumping IE.

Y'all realize that the benchmark being displayed here only tests a browsers javascript engine and not the actual browser, right?
There is more to the internet than javascript
Oh, and Firefox 3.1 (not to be confused with 3.1b1) has been fixed and now scores faster than Chrome on this same javascript test.
Thought I'd add that in case someone has a need for lightning fast javascript in their browser of choice...

Javascript is a _huge_ part of the internet experience these days and having a browser that processes it faster will give you a much better web experience. That being said there's more to this new Chrome browser than javascript. Its memory handling architecture will also give it a big leg up. Its early days but its definitely something you should keep an eye on if you do much surfing.
Regarding Firefox 3.1, downloading nightly builds of alpha software is probably limited to real hard core mozilla fans. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

IE is 30000 milliseconds and GoogleChrome is 3000milliseconds, give or take. Still under a second and still both are damn fast . I mean were talking MILLISECONDS!
Read some of the comments about the browser and I think I'll stay with IE.

That's 30s vs 3s Evan. The numbers are from test runs on a page that executes a bunch of different javascript just to stress test and show the performance diffs. So its not from a "real" web page but it gives you a good idea of what's under the hood. I'd recommend you try any of those other browsers (but especially current releases of Firefox with a few of the better addons, yeah I'm biased ) vs. any version of IE.

I turned off javascript. ATVFrontier looks/runs the same
But yes, snippets of javascript are everywhere on the internet.

As far as the memory handling, it looks like it will be using more of it (not really an issue nowadays). Individual tabs being individual processes is kind of cool.
Curious though, what "memory handling" features do you like about it? Or is it the tab/process you like?

You know, if they continue the development, the browser looks good. Right now though it is lacking in features.

IE only really has a problem with one part of that benchmark. And boy does it crank up the 'overall' number we see in the results. But in fairness, on the rest of that test, it is slower than the others as well. (shaved 14 seconds off of that test on this machine, though that is still much higher than Chrome)
What I'd like to see is a test between webkit and trident, that would give a better idea of "what's under the hood" compared to IE...

If you want to be able to run any kind of activex, IE is still the only game in town though.
If you browse smart, you'll probably never have a problem with IE.
On a side note, Chrome is calling home every 10 minutes on the dot. Even when it's not running.
I blame Ronin for sullying my honeypot with this software!
(and yes, it is benign.... or is it? Google gets paid by advertising. It'd be nice for Google if they only had some way of having a toolbar or even a browser to help them track activity.... )

I wonder how much info Chrome reports back to Google....They have made their business on data mining. Myself I like Firefox 3 with all the scripts I run to customize it just like I want it.
