Anyone have any experience with game cams? I'm thinking of getting one, and so far am sort of siding towards one of the 'flashless' IR ones (that way I could also use it as a security cam if I wanted to).
Any thoughts, recommendations, or specs I should look for?

I did a bit of research on this, in regards to dose the flash startle animals??
Bottom line I kept coming up with is yes they do startle the wary ones.
If you can aford it, spend the money on the IR units and as you mentioned it is the only way for security applications.
Also generally speaking the more you spend the faster the motion sensor is. Seems you can get alot of blank photos, the sensor was delayed and the animal walked by.
for what its worth

A buddy just told me his story of setting up a couple of the cheap $100 jobs to scout for bear. He put one on a ridge, and got lots of deer pics. The one he put in the valley was gone when he went looking a couple weeks ago. He found one of the metal bungee hooks all un-coiled, and the other hook 20 feet away.
He's guessing that the bear got curious about the flash and yanked it off the tree. He looked for the camera for a few hours, but never found it. He's hoping when he's hunting that he'll come across it. I hope he does find it, I want to see the pictures of the bear ripping it off the tree.

I agree that if you've got the money, get one that's IR. I've got cheaper Moultries and the only thing I'd change is the flash. I've had a few pics of bucks with that, "Holy #$@%, what was that" look on their face and the next pic is it's butt as it sneaks back the way it came. I'm sure a big old buck will think twice about using a certain trail after being flashed in the face a couple times.
As far as trigger speed goes, more expensive is generally less delay but they all have soem delay. You can make up for delayed trigger speed by the angle you set the camera up on as well. Don't set it up to be completely broadside.
I looked at Cuddebacks which are pretty pricey and definitley nice but figured I could get a couple lesser cameras and cover more areas for the same price. All I want to know is what's around, I don't need the best quality.

I have been looking around, and for about $75 extra, I can get the IR flash.
Do any of you have any suggestions for resolution?
There is a possibility that if I get a pic of Mr. HOLY &*(^%%^*(, I may want to print it off the computer.

I did a lot of reading on hunting forums and decided to buy the Moultrie I40. They are $198 in the US.

I have a 1mb Moultre ($100 3 yrs ago). It has bad resolution and you can turn the flash off.
Most dont even blink when it goes off but some deer do...
You have to walk by it to set (alert) it then it will take a picture if something walks by again or stays in front of it long enough.
also get a rechargable battery or solar.
