Sorry for the same old question...what tire .....?

I have been running a tire similair to the Bighorn...the GBC Dirt Tamer.

It is a great tire , but there are times when I could use a little more bite from the rear tires.

What tire is out there similair to Bighorn, but maybe with a slight bit more directional bite?

GBC has the Dirt Commanders i am looking at...

any other suggestions?

Thanks all...I'll look into them all.

You can't beat the tread design of the BigHorns (and Dirt Tamers) for most all riding conditions that I incur.

However, when the mud is thick(not the deep , deep mud) but when it is consistantly thick throughout the whole course, the rear wheels need just a little more grip. I have to use 4wd to pull and accellerate through it (to keep up with the competition).
It may be that I use the Bighorn(Dirt Tamer) tire in the front and switch to a 589 or some other tread for the rear. Like I said..I only need "slightly" more grip in the rear....just slightly more...

Thanks

If this is for racing stay away from the 589's as they are very heavy. Then again so are the Bighorns. You might actually pick up a lot switching to one of the mud tires such as Bugs. One of our members put together a nice table for quite a few different tires:

That list is a great resource. Looking at the weight (and THIS REVIEW by MeYammy), the Mudbug Radials look like a great option.

Thanks all.

Yeah...the 589 are too much weight and not what I am looking for. If it got that bad, I'll stivk my ITP XTR's back on Yellow-biggrin

Yes...this is for a racing application. I am running 25" tires for racing. I use a Bighorn type tread design now and still love it for most courses.
I just found that when it has been raining all day and the course is thick mud throughout, it is hard to accelerate with that tread design. (in 2wd)

I'll look at the Mud bugs... at a glance they are more "mud" design than I think I am looking for...but I will review them more later when can. ('ll read MeYammys review)

Thanks again.

They only have 1" lugs, which is what I wanted, so that they would be good in most conditions including hard surfaces, and not limited to being suitable for mud only.

The Mudbug radials are sounding good. I like the 1" tread.....don't need anything more for this application. I think they would work great with Bighorns in the front too.

The ITP TerraCross has always intersted me too....just not sure if it meets the bill for being slightly better in mud than a Bighorn....

Kenda Bounty Hunters might work as well for the rear..

Hmm....what else...

Thanks all!

Apparently ITP has changes the TerraCross but the first generation seemed a little prone to sidewall issues.
