First off I must thank Weasel for his help in getting my 2008 Renegade X snorkeled up for the challenging Alaska trails and water crossings. We followed Ronins guide on Snorkeling the intakes (Engine and CVT).

Here is the link to that guide:

Ronin's Snorkel Guide - Click Here

We also setup the CVT exhaust at 2" O.D. as well. Parts for CVT exhaust only are:

2 ea. 2" 90 deg Rubber Couplers
1 ea. 2" ABS Coupler
1 ea. 2" X 24" ABS Pipe Section
1 ea. 2" 90 deg ABS Street Elbow
1 ea. 2" 45 deg ABS Street Elbow
1 ea. 24" Section of 2" O.D. NovaFlex Coolant Hose
Rivet Gun and Rivets
1 Tube of Black High temp RTV SIlicone Sealant
1 Roll of Foil Tape
4 ea. Hose Clamps

Total Cost was about $100.

1> Take off the factory CVT exhaust snorkel

2> Attach first 2" 90 deg rubber coupler to CVT outlet with a hose clamp

3> Cut a 2" length of 2" ABS pipe and attach to the other side of coupler with a hose clamp

4> Attach second 90 deg rubber coupler to the 2" ABS piece with another hose clamp

..(now you have a tubing setup from the left side of the ATV CVT cover outlet over to the right side of the ATV. The opening of the second coupler should be point up towards the shifter linkage)...

5> Attach a 2" piece of ABS into the 2" ABS coupler with ABS cement to make a male/female fitting

6> Attach the 2" ABS coupler/ABS female side to one end of the Novaflex Coolant Hose using the High Temp RTV Silicone and secure it by drilling holes and popping in a few rivets.

7> Attatch the 2" ABS 90 deg street elbow tothe other end of the NovaFlex Hose and secure it the same way with the sealant and some rivets.

8> Fit the NovaFlex Hose into the lower 2" 90 deg rubber coupler using the male side of the ABS Coupler/ABS pipe fitting we made in step 5 and secure it with a hose clamp

9> Bend the NovaFlex Hose (bends real easy but won't collapse) and stuff the 90 deg street elbow into the metal braket under the cowling.

10> Top it off with the 45 deg 2" ABS Elbow.

11> Use the Foil Tape to shield the 1st 90 deg Rubber coupler from the rear exhaust pipe. A couple of wraps should be sufficient.

Here are some pictures of how it was done:

Here are where the 3 snorkles exit but the one on the left is from the CVT exhaust....

Here is a picture of the 2 90 deg rubber couplers used to get the exhaust tube from the CVT to the right side of the ATV.....

Here is a picture of the NovaFlex Coolant Hose run up the right side of the shift linkage. It is very flexible so it doesn't interfere with shifting....

.....and....... here is a picture of the finished product withthe snorkel tucked up behind the side cover plastic....

Sure makes a difference when crossing deep water and knowing that water won't get into the CVT. This should work for both Renegades and Outtlanders. I like the ABS better than the white PVC because it looks more OEM and is hidden better.

Good luck,
Dave

Excellent writeup AlaskaGriz! How hard is it to get the side plastic on? On my Outty there's no way it'll go on with a 2" tube running beneath it. Is the Novaflex flexible enough to allow it to pop on and stay on? I wonder if the Renny is different than the Outty in this area?

Thanks for the feedback. It fits quite well. I don't think the X is too much different than the 07 Outty since Weasel has this on his machine too. If it were not flexible enough the shifter would rub and be very stiff to move.

I think the NovaFlex Hose maybe the trick everyone is looking for to get to a 2" spec. T he only thing I could imagine doing would be to tie-wrap the top grommet in place (drill a hole in the mount peg side for a tie-wrap to go therough) since it is putting just a very little bit pressure there. But that is just a "maybe" scenario.

I got mine at a Rubber and Hose Supply company here in Alaska. Looks like most Hose Supply companies can get it.

Here is a link to their website:

Novaflex Website - Click Here

I'll be posting some pics of the individual pieces of the ABS and Couplers and Elbows so others can get an idea of what these look like.

where did you get the 90 deg rubber couplers from? I stopped in at home depot while I was in town and they didn't carrry any. How about spa hose? Any idea where to get that from? Customer service sucks at all the shops here and they are absolutly no help! My two kids could do a better job.

We got em from Home Depot. Try again at another HD store or at Lowes or any Plumbing Supply. Should be readily available.

how's this set up working for you? Any heat issues with the CVT at all? I'll probably pop mine up out of the pod just to get a little extra hight, for looks and to keep the exhaust and intakes away from each oher.
