I have a Remington 597 17 HMR that is being recalled so I need to replace it with another 17 HMR. I'm leaning towards the Savage 93R17-FSS, it's a synthetic stock with the stainless barrel (regular barrel, not the heavy barrel). I'm asking my western friends to give me their honest opinions on this rifle and for those who own one, what are the pros and cons.

I want the regular barrel because I love to walk a lot and I want the rifle as light as possible. Thanks in advance.

I have the 93 stainless bull barrel with synth.stock in a .22 mag. I'm a big guy and find the gun to small, it is difficult to shoot due to the small size. I wanted something small to carry in the truck and thought this would be ideal. but not much good if I'm waving all over, and can't hit squat. I will be changing out the stock in the near future.

The savage is a nice little rifle. I have one with the blued barrel in .22lr. I put a scope on it but it is still fairly light. If you want really light then stay with irons.

I have the same scope on my savage too. Works good on a rimfire.
