Ok, I've been needing to get into better shape and I admit that Spike's post gave me the idea to do so with others from the site that may want to participate.

So here is how this gig will hopefully work:

1) We will do the initial signup in this thread until April 7th (Monday)
Once everyone that is participating is signed up, I'll make a master list in this thread and then we will begin.

2) When you sign up please list the following:

* Present weight
* Weight you want to achieve (goal)

If you need to get a good idea of your goal, try using this link as it gives you solid information on what ones weight should be:

IDEAL WEIGHT

Now know that figures can vary, as it tells me my ideal weight is between 129 and 169.......well, I haven't been that size since my 12 grade year.....thats not going to happen. However it can give a good indicator if you haven't a clue what you may want to achieve.

Once the above is listed here is how we will conduct the support and follow up in this post:

1) We will start Monday April 7th....!

2) Every last Monday of every month will be weigh in to track progress until the end of this year......and then we will see where we all are.

3) This post will be used for tracking, support and advise on everything from exercises to eating.....etc.

4) Last but not least, it MUST BE POSITIVE comments and support and if you are struggling or want out...feel free to do so...this is just for fun and to accomplish our goals with some support.

I'll start this off in the next post........!

For me...

Height 5-11 (Male)
Current weight: 216 lbs. Was 214 lbs last week. Gained 2 lbs last week - due to muscle size increase (probably from "doing the stairs" while on course).

Goal is to drop my remaining extra 25 (or so) lbs within the next 3-4 months. The faster I can drop this extra weight, the more efficient my body can fight its recently diagnosed T2 Diabetes.

--------

My usual "minimum" 2 hours of exercise a day. (yes, a day). The list is:
- 1 x 15 minutes of hand weights.
- 1 x 15 minutes of shadow boxing or non-contact boxing with my son. Or, might to 15 minutes of skipping rope exercise in our attached garage.
- 20+ sit ups, 20+ push ups, 15+ leg lifts, 20+ knee crunshes
- 2 x 500 steps on my stepper machine.
- 2 x 100 Toe Ups (standing on tippy goes and rolling on heals to lift the toes off the ground. Great to improve ankle muscles and body balance.
- 2 x 15 minutes on our stationary bike.
- 2 x 15 minutes on our stationary glider (ski machine).

When possible, one set of exercises in the morning and 1 set in the the evening. Being non-impact tasks, double sessions can be done each day. Thus, 2 x 100 exercise task entry in the above list.

--------

For last Monday & Tuesday, I did my usual 2 hours of exercise. See above list.

Last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I was on a business course. While on course (during breaks and at lunch), I would walk up and down their 12 flights of stairs. At lunch time, I would do up/down 2 times. In the evening of each day, I did my normal evening session.

Today, I skipped the morning session and now heading off for some swimming. Plan to perform my evening session and do some Tae Bo (Basic tape) after that.

Gotta run. Heading off to go swimming for 2 hours.

Totally agree. I am taking a normal helping, but slowing down. I find one of my worst habits is that I eat to fast and then take second or third helpings.
Drinking no soda and trying to stick to water, tea, or juice will also helps.

Great stuff jamie650XT and its great to have you and STG aboard Smile

What the heck, I just as well try it. I could lose a bit of my winter hibernation fat.

HT: 6'
WT: 198

My goal would be to either drop to 180 or so, or else grow to somewhere between 6'2" & 6'3". Chances are I'm going to have to lose the weight.

My last blood test (needed one before we could adopt our little girl) said I was as healthy as a horse, but my pants seem to get a little tight every winter. I usually lose it by summer, but this year I want to trim down a little sooner.
Excercise shcedule:

Don't have one, this will be tough. I guess I'll try to get 45 + minutes of activity per day. Since I farm/ranch I'll try to guess at what I did & just add a little if I think I fell short.
For example, if I walk to check the cows, it is easy 20+ minutes, twice a day might be enough of that. When I'm in a hurry, I take an ATV, but I like to walk them at least once a day if I can, both for the excercise & to keep them used to me. Probably will do some push-ups or sit-ups to make up any lost time.
However, I consider carrying a 90# calf up a muddy hill, with a cow breathing down my neck as all the excercise I need to do that day LOL
Probably the biggest thing that would help me would be to watch what I eat. I have a terrible sweet tooth & can down a half gallon of ice cream if I get a craving for it. I also hate to 'waste' food, and will clean out the fridge from time to time.

Congrats you guys. I'm gonna hold my chair down to make sure it does not get away, and monitor your progress to make sure none of you cheat. Then, when you all hit your targets, I'm going to blow the dust off the tread mill and plug it in to see if it still works. Then I'll line it up evenly between the TV and fridge. Then work up the nerve to think about getting on it. Laugh

Seriously you guys, I have tremendous respect for what you are all doing. I've been (no joking) actually on a program myself for a while and it's slowly working...2-3lbs a week is the idea target. I'm not going to post my weight and regime for my own reasons, as compliments from my wife are as good a measure of my success as any scale. That and the fact that I've had to punch a new hole in my belt...success in this area feels awesome doesn't it? Smile

Good luck everyone. Great post Weasel!

MeYammy...thanks as I think if we keep supporting each other we can do this. Besides....this isn't really about the weight and or #'s. Its about helping motivate each other to become healthier:)

So if folks don't want to publish #'s...no problem. The point of this thread is to simply help and keep each other encouraged. Health in the long run is the only thing that matters.

With that said....I proposed April 4th as the day to start keeping track. But of course this imo will catch on and others will join. So no big deal..as I know we will all want them aboard.

Thus far we have:

Wow, thats 6 of us in a matter of a couple of days......! Come on others, you have nothing to loose (no pun intended) Wink

Today (3-30-08)

1.) Woke up early and went to early breakfast / church
2.) Took the family out for Pizza for lunch, ate 3 pieces (better then I normally do, but still need to cut back on portions) and WATER to drink
3.) Salad and Roast beef sandwich for dinner with WATER
4.) Did 3 Mile aerobic video with wife.
5.) Ran 1 Mile on TM at 2% Grade

Thus far another thing I am attempting to do is:

Drink my daily need of water to help flush my system of the junk I've been putting in it. Secondly, stop eating / snacking past 6pm.......one of my biggest weaknesses.

So far feel good, forgot how good it felt to sweat from pushing my cardio. Didn't over extend myself as I ran a easy mile after the aerobic workout. Some further goals I hope to achieve:

1) 185 lbs
2) Be able to run in the 7's again for a mile and under 13 min's for 2 miles.
3) Increase my water intake and stop eating / munching after 6pm

Just checking in....

Well, I think I already fell off the wagon. Woke up this morning to snow on top of mud. Walking through the cows just didn't seem at all interesting, so I took the ATV. Glad I have until Friday to redeem myself.

Some interesting tools / gadgets I've found:

If you setup an account with igoogle....they have what they call "calorie counter". This is a sweet little setup.

It can be found: HERE

Here are some others:

Ideal Weight

RESTAURANT MENU CALORIE COUNTER

FREE TRAINIER.com

Just something to help if you need to improve the variety of workouts etc.....
