| lewy what is Rocky Brook rd. #748 like from #742 over to Sping Creek and then on over to cement creek rd.? Are they rough or smooth/ fast? Going to be doing most riding up north this year. THANKS |
FS748 from FS 742 starts out as a wide well graded road suitable for automobiles and wide enough for tandem dump trucks. The road is graded with white limestone rock/dust and can be very dusty. The road is this way all the way to the Spring Creek reservoir.
Spring Creek Reservoir
When you then turn onto FS744 which will lead you towards Cement Creek but not directly it becomes a lesser graded but still auto possible travel if it hasn't rained. The white gravel has now become graded soil/rock road. FS 744 will take you to FS 759 1E which is a spur off of FS 759 the Reno Divide road. The trail will follow the fence.
This is a view looking back towards FS 742 in the Taylor Park valley. The continental divide is in the background.
Your ride has now become a full fledged trail suitable for off-road vehicles only. Still moderate for ATV's IMO.
Heading north on FS759 will take you to the junction of Italian Creek road and the south section of Reno Divide rd., there will be a gate. Going through the gate taking Reno Divide to the south will lead you to Cement Creek rd. a beautiful forest canopy smooth trail shared with Mountain bikers and hikers eventually following Cement Creek.
Reno Divide road to the south
If you head to the west on Cement Creek you will eventually come out on State Hwy 135. If you take Cement Creek to the east however, you will... if you have the ability and courage ride all the way up to the top of Mt. Tilton. A panoramic view of the Elk Mtns. will be yours, weather permitting. The top will be at 12,800'. A mine site is at the end of the trail for you to investigate.

End of the trail at Mt. Tilton.
Not many riders will make the climb to the top as it switchbacks on off-cambered rutty narrow shelfs with nothing but moss, lichens, talus and the omni-presence of shear altitude off the slopes. Keeping your concentration on the immediate trail is very important.
Taking Italian Creek road from the gate will have you heading back to Taylor Park. Italian Creek rd. will split and you have the choice of taking the high road or the low rd.
The high road is pretty technical. (Redbull (riding)and Rick
Paula waiting to go through the tough spot. She is fearless.
Both roads will take you to the Flag Mtn. turn off.
Flag Mtn.
Fropm the top of Flag mtn. you will have another unforgetable panoramic view of Taylor Valley and the majestic Colligiate Peaks to include the highest, and largest concentration of 14,000' Mtns. in the lower 48 states. To the west you will see the Three Apostles, Missouri Mt., Mt. Belford, Mt. Harvard, Mt. Columbia. To the north you can gaze at the Snowmass Wilderness area of the south portion of the Maroon Bells. The south you can on a clear day see Mt. Antero and Mt. Princeton all forteeners.

I better let the computor kool off for awhile I sure do get hyped when I think about Taylor Park.
