Looks like The wife and I will be heading to the taylor park Trading Post again for the 8th straight year in a row for a 11 day stay. Hope to ride at least 1000 miles again as we have in the past.

We will be staying at cabin # 1 from July 29th to August 8th this year.

This is a wonderful place for OHV's as the entire area is off-road friendly.

Lewy, would happen to have any more pictures of your ride in Taylor Park? I'm still undecided on whether to go to Taylor Park or ride the Paiute. I'm leaning towards the Paiute but not dead set on it. Thanks

Bwomp, I have many from several years of riding the Taylor Park area.
If your undecided as to where to go I would like to say that Taylor Park is a great place to go in the summer if you want to escape the heat. TP is at 9500 ft. in elevation and the trails are mostly in the 10,000 to 13,000 ft. elevations. It is very common the have 50-70 degree temps. in the day. Much lower at night. One of these days I will do the Piute Trail but only after I have explored all of the Taylor Park area. 1989 was the first year I rode in Taylor and it was on a dirtbike. I have been back many times since.

I am sort of a senic view nut. If your more interested in pictures of the trail terrain I do have some of them.

Taylor Park Colorado

I was going to paste the links for more but realized that when scolling through the ATV Frontier USA forum there are many.
You may want to look back a few pages in the forum. I know that I have posted ride from 2005, 2006 and so have other members that have been to Taylor Park. Yellow-biggrin

This is the cabin layout:

The interior of our cabin:

The great thing about Taylor Park is that once your their you unload and ride out from your cabin and come back in on your ATV. The Trading Post has everything you need.

Lewy,

Do you know if there is a RV park in the area? preferably one that you can ride from? Are most of the trails passable with a side/sides?

Thanks Lewy, the scenery out there is amazing. I've been to Roosevelt Nat'l Forest a few years ago and that's why I'm having a hard time deciding on where to go. How technical are the trails there, since I'm going by myself I'm not trying to do anything too difficult, not worth getting injured over. Just want to ride and enjoy the scenery. If you have a couple of dedicated pictures of the trails could you post them so I don't have to go digging for them. I have viewed many pic's of the scenery out and if I look at any more of them.....I'm moving out of flat Ohio. Thanks again..

Yes CV there is a RV Park and it is at the Taylor Park Trading Post. Up on top of the hill that overlooks the Trading Post with a fantastic view of Taylor Reservoir is the latest edition to the Trading Post and that is the RV "Dream Ranch". Several hook-ups available with showers, laundry, electric, dump stations. The RV ranch is in the same vicinity as the cabins. You ride out ride in from where you are staying or parked.

I would say that all the trails we ride on are passable with side by side's.
There are some exceptions and those are rare, mostly these are dirt bike paths and you will know it as soon as you are on them. Most all the trails are listed in many maps available at the Trading Post. You will be riding on U.S Forest service roads, of different types, and will be labled as such on the maps. They can range from, High clearence vehicle's only, 4WD only, hiking trail, OHV trail etc.

The main trails we use are 4WD trails and OHV.
Latitude 40 makes a great map for the Aspen, Crested Butte, Gunnison area.

FS748 from FS 742 starts out as a wide well graded road suitable for automobiles and wide enough for tandem dump trucks. The road is graded with white limestone rock/dust and can be very dusty. The road is this way all the way to the Spring Creek reservoir.

Spring Creek Reservoir

When you then turn onto FS744 which will lead you towards Cement Creek but not directly it becomes a lesser graded but still auto possible travel if it hasn't rained. The white gravel has now become graded soil/rock road. FS 744 will take you to FS 759 1E which is a spur off of FS 759 the Reno Divide road. The trail will follow the fence.

This is a view looking back towards FS 742 in the Taylor Park valley. The continental divide is in the background.

Your ride has now become a full fledged trail suitable for off-road vehicles only. Still moderate for ATV's IMO.
Heading north on FS759 will take you to the junction of Italian Creek road and the south section of Reno Divide rd., there will be a gate. Going through the gate taking Reno Divide to the south will lead you to Cement Creek rd. a beautiful forest canopy smooth trail shared with Mountain bikers and hikers eventually following Cement Creek.

Reno Divide road to the south

If you head to the west on Cement Creek you will eventually come out on State Hwy 135. If you take Cement Creek to the east however, you will... if you have the ability and courage ride all the way up to the top of Mt. Tilton. A panoramic view of the Elk Mtns. will be yours, weather permitting. The top will be at 12,800'. A mine site is at the end of the trail for you to investigate.

On top of Mt. Tilton

Mt. Tilton
Pearl Mtn. in the distance. Redbull (right) and Foneman.

End of the trail at Mt. Tilton.

Not many riders will make the climb to the top as it switchbacks on off-cambered rutty narrow shelfs with nothing but moss, lichens, talus and the omni-presence of shear altitude off the slopes. Keeping your concentration on the immediate trail is very important.

Taking Italian Creek road from the gate will have you heading back to Taylor Park. Italian Creek rd. will split and you have the choice of taking the high road or the low rd.

The high road is pretty technical. (Redbull (riding)and Rick

Paula waiting to go through the tough spot. She is fearless.

Both roads will take you to the Flag Mtn. turn off.

Flag Mtn.

Fropm the top of Flag mtn. you will have another unforgetable panoramic view of Taylor Valley and the majestic Colligiate Peaks to include the highest, and largest concentration of 14,000' Mtns. in the lower 48 states. To the west you will see the Three Apostles, Missouri Mt., Mt. Belford, Mt. Harvard, Mt. Columbia. To the north you can gaze at the Snowmass Wilderness area of the south portion of the Maroon Bells. The south you can on a clear day see Mt. Antero and Mt. Princeton all forteeners.

Maroon Peak in the distance

I better let the computor kool off for awhile I sure do get hyped when I think about Taylor Park. Yellow-rolleyes
