I installed a brp windshield on my 800 on Saturday. It this point I am not all that impressed with it.

Don't get me wrong. It dose look good and I like the height which is short enough to look over but easy enough to get behind and stay out of the wind. However it is a royal pain to assemble with out a friends help and the quality of the attachment devices that secure the air deflector to the windshield itself leave a lot to be desired.

The top two plastic pins that secure the windscreen to the air deflector were not only difficult to install because the contours of the the two pieces do not match perfectly they also didn't hold up. I took my machine for a little woods ride yesterday and ended up clipping a stump going around a corner. It jerked the bars from my hand but noting major. About two miles farther I discovered that the top two fasteners had popped out. They will be replaced with bolts nuts and rubber washers this weekend.

The only other thing that I can think of off the top of my head that I don't really like about the windshield is the fact that the windscreen itself is not clear. Its more of a blue color. This is not a huge problem due to the fact that is is designed to be looked over however it would be nice to tuck up behind it and look through the plastic if one is riding in the rain.

When Riding the machine the wind now hits the very top of my helmet and the deflector also provides good wind protection to my hands. This makes for a much more comfortable ride in the late march weather of Wisconsin.

Time will tell if I end up liking the windshield. At this point I will have to say that I have not been overly impressed with it.

For a hundred and thirty bucks you would think that they could have used a better attachment system for the two pieces of the windshield.

I will have pics up in a few days.

Vip air is the only other company that I have heard of that had them for the 800.

I went with the brp unit for two reasons over the vip air. One cost. 130 vs 200. The other availability. My local dealer had this one in stock and I could get in right then, the other one I would have had to order.

The owners of the Vip air units that I have talked to have all been pleased with theirs though.

I INSTALLED THE VIP AIR MYSELF...
IT'S ON A 400 AND I LOVE IT...
IT LOOKS SO COOL, I LEFT IT ON FOR THIS SUMMER. I REPLACED THE "CLEAR" WINDSHIELD WITH SOME CHECKOUT COUNTER CONVEYOR BELT.

I TOOK THE WHOLE THING OFF YESTERDAY FOR ACCESS MY DASH. AND THE BIKE LOOKED BARE WITH OUT IT...

ANOTHER COOL THING, I CAN STICK A MAP ON THE INSIDE OF THE SHIELD FACING ME....EASY ACCESS:)

I was looking at a friends 800 the other day and he has a clear windscreen on his brp windshield. I might have to look into changing out that part later on. For right now it is not a big issue as it gets covered in mud every time I get on it lol.

The blue part is the protective plastic film you need to remove. I have beat the crap out of mine on tree branch's and only have slight scratches on it. I installed my in the parking lot before a ride in 30 min with minal tools.

MotelCambodia,

Welcome to ATV Frontier!

I have already removed the plastic film. Looking at it tonight in the back of my truck it seems clearer than before. I am hoping that it will clear up in time. You are right though...minimal tools are required for the install. I am mainly just not impressed with the attachment devices used to connect the windscreen to the air deflector. The word cheesy comes to mind I guess.

However even with over three hundred road miles in the back of my truck and about 60 on the wheeler since I lost the two fasteners it has held on great. No damage that I can see as of yet.

Good information, as I was about to order one for my 800. I really like the look from what I can tell from it from the net photos. However, it appears it may be sort of "cheap"?

Keep us updated as how it holds up.

I have 1000 + ATV miles and 100's of miles in the back of my PU and have not lost any fasteners. A simple way would be to use small nuts and bolts and not the locking push on things.
One thing I like about it is you can remove it off the bracket easy it held on with push on rubber grommets.
The one bad thing is it make it harder to get your instrument pod off to get to your air cleaner.

I'm going to check on a price on the replacement clear part of it . I hit too much trees with it and it looking a little scratched up.

I totaly agree with both of those statements. The grommet attachment to the frame is nice, and was a great idea.

I also am not really thrilled with the access to the air box after mounting the windshield. Yea it can be done but what was already a slight pain when compared to my big bear is a major pain now. Personally I think that it should be easier to check the air box with out the addition of the windshield than it is let alone with it.

If you are a tall person it isn't high enough.Whats the use of having a windshield if you can't protect yourself from the wind. It's nice looking and maybe practical but not adjustable height wise so it is not for everyone.
