Last summer after hearing alot of stories about guys having there bikes stolen I decided I wanted to take some preventive measures. I was looking for something more for use on the trail and when you make rest stops etc. I decided to install an alarm system. I looked around at several units and went with a motorcycle style as it had the best application for my needs such as weather proofing. The unit I installed has a shock sensor that is user adjustable as well as a voltage and tilt sensor that i used to protect the storage lids on my rear seat. You can also add break switches to your seat so if they try to remove your seat it will sound the alarm. The best part of it is the FM remote that will alert you if you are in the motel room restaurant etc. I installed the ignition dissable feature as my insurance broker told me that i could save 10 to 15 percent on my insurance by having it installed. The unit has the standard flashing small red LED that you install in your handle bar area. So here is how it works. Touch it, tamper with the wiring, try to steal the beer out of my rear seat and off it goes loud as heck and multiple sounds. My FM remote starts to chirp and vibrate to let me know there is a *beep* with a death wish around my bike. NOW THE TEST. A couple of months after i had installed this and took all the ribbing from my pals, a friend and i were riding in an area that is pretty remote and there were reports of a few bikes being stolden from the area. We rode for about 2 hours untill we came to a spot on the trail that had a sign posting a scenic outlook. You have to leave your bike at this point as you cannot drive to it due to enviroment protection. The walk in is only about 10 min but well worth it. After standing there enjoying the view I hear my alarm go off and my remote is chirping. We took off like a pair of women in a Wall Mart parking lot and half way to our bikes we here them start. When we got to the spot, my bike was still there but my buddies bike was gone. I fired up jumped on and we were in hot persuit. About 10 min into the chase the *beep* fliped the bike and we had him. His friend on the other bike got away but we got what we were after. After a slight beating the guy was willing to give up and we called in the police using a cell phone. To my supprise the cops got there pretty quick and when they got there the guy was no time snitching out on his friend and told the cops that they watch these kind of spots all the time as they have quite a bit of time to hot wire while you are walking in to the lookout. End result was they nailed these guys and were able to uncover there chop shop with a total of 11 stolden bikes.

I bet your buddy was eating his words after that. Glad you caught those *beep* and that the alarm worked. I might have to put one on my next bike. I didn't even think about the insurance giving you a break for an alarm on a ATV, they give me 15% for my truck having an alarm, but i never thought about the ATV. Good point to bring up.
Thanks Yamahawg!!

Great story Yamahawg, I have been thinking of getting something like that for my own, I just didn't know where to start? Are they expensive units ot buy and hard to install? Thanks again, you should post this at the mudhole, I am sure quite a few would be interested in hearing this, especially with the big mudhole poker run Apr.28th, I know a lot of people will be staying in Motels and such.................Irv

I've heard here in Europe, that Spyball is rather good. Also DEFA has a relatively good bike alarm.
Nice story, and good to know that local correctional facility got a few new recidents. Hope they like the food.

Hi guys. The alarm systems are not hard to install. I went with a talon unit but there is also one by Gorilla that is very simple to install and only takes about an hour.
www.motovan.com/cat/20...tv_en.html
www.talonalarms.com/t2...2200i.html I used a tupperware container to house my unit to help protect it from water and such but i have also installed them inside the air box. You can get the talon alarm direct from the manufacturer but i belive it is a little cheaper through Motovan but you will have to contact a dealer. I will contact the guy at tallon and let him know that there is some intrest here and he will mabey give you a further discount. I spoke with him after i installed my unit and he talked as though he would give club discounts or web site discounts. Check out the links above to read more about them and when contacting Talon tell him you seen this on atvfrontier because i told him about the site to see if you all can get a discount. I will keep you posted as to discounts. Later All. Yamahawg...
