I just put together a quad deck for my 95 GMC Shortbox, extended cab and have a question on mounting it. I don't want to bolt it directly to the bed rails as I don't think that they have enough strength to them.

The thoughts so far have been:

1. Mounting plate (4" x 4" 1/4" steel) on the underside and inside the box bolted together with eye bolt though the center and camper style turnbuckles and chain to cinch it all down.

2. Cut holes in box and run chain with turnbuckles directly from the frame, up through the box to the deck.

How are the store bought ones mounted to the beds of the trucks?

Pics would be great...Thanks!!

Scott

Not directly related but it may help.....

When I bought my 5th wheel hitch it came with a set of 4 "L" brackets. The brackets bolted to the frame rails of the truck and the other leg fit up against the bottom of the truck box. I had to drill the frame rails to bolt them on (Note.....the metal in the frame rails is very hard!). Once those L brackets are installed then the "runners" that the hitch slides on was bolted to the L brackets. This system has worked well for me in hauling my 8000 pound trailer. Perhaps you could use something like the L brackets to mount your deck to?

My buddy got 4 eye bolts the same size as the body bolts on is. Its a full size but the concept should be the same.

Buy 4 eyebolts the same size as the body bolt s and remove the 4 outer body bolts and put in the eye bolts.

4" x 4" steel plate with a 4" tall, 1/2" threaded bar in the middle. Weld a t handle to a deep nut that fits the threaded bar. Voila:

thanks for the tips everyone. I think that I'm going to go the turnbuckle route with the 4x4 plates.
