I am an happy owner of Oregon 550t and I would like to know which method or guide to follow to visualize on the gps more independent tracks pieces simultaneously and together with the preloaded map.
The problem is that if I load these tracks pieces as a single track (since in this gps is not possible to view more tracks at the same time), all the final parts of the pieces are connected with the beginning of the following piece making the vision very difficult.
For this reason I would like to to convert the track to a map and then import it in the gps and put on top of the preloaded map.
As an alternative i could first download the preloaded map from the gps to the pc, insert the track and import everything again.
Note that is not important that the gps follow this track, It could only show it for example like a river; I don't need any navigation function but only see the track with no connecting lines between the pieces.
Does someone of you know the procedure to do this as simple as possible?
All what I have now are hundreds of tracks in .plt or .gpx format not joined and tens of km one far from the other; I must visualize all of them and togheter with the preloaded map.

I do not have a Oregon model .Unless the Oregon is totaly different you will not be able to download the Preloaded maps from the GPS to the PC, only Tracks/Waypoints. You cannot even read the Preloaded MMC or Micro Media cards on your PC. You will have to Purchase the Garmin MapSource CD/DVD's for your needs to do this. I have been in touch with willy4x4 on a site in Winnipeg.MB who is having trouble sending Tracks and Waypoints from his Oregon 500 to the PC and from the PC to the Oregon. He has talked to the Garmin People and they are working on this problem.
I know that I have not addressed all of your problems but if there are any of the ones mentioned, present in your application, they will have to addressed before you can solve yours. Garmin has a tutorial for the use of the MapSource Software on their site.

#5: Re: Gps navigation Author: Geotech1, Location: Calgary, ABPosted: Thu Nov 05, 2009 12:18 pm ---- I looked at your GPS online and it has Topo US preloaded and I am 100% positive you can not integrate your tracks and TopoUS into one file. But it is a good idea to load you TopoUs onto your PC (if possible) this way you have a copy on your computer and GPS in case it is accidently deleted. I think your best bet is to download your tracks onto your PC and integrate them into one file and load them back onto your GPS. The only way I know to do this is to create a new track file that you would copy and paste all the tracks you have into one file. Mapsource is very easy to use for this. You need to click on the physical tracks you want and simply copy them, you then activate the track(s) you want and paste them into by highlighting the name and simply paste. You end up with one track that has multiple tracks under one name. When you export back into your GPS just make sure the map(TopoUS) and track you want are active in Mapsource and it will export both for you right into you GPS. I just bought a Garmin 60csx and it came with Mapsource, I am surprised for the amount you paid for yours (if you bought it new) that it is not included.
Just a warning…if you load a map into your GPS from Mapsource it will overwrite the maps that are on it. I found I needed to select all my maps to ensure all of them were loaded at the same time. This is where your TopoUS could be accidently deleted. It does not do this with tracks only maps.
