Right before the Town of Weed and to the east there is a forest service look out and some good valleys around there that hold deer. Also, just past Mayhill on south/right there is Mule deer canyon. There is some good hunting real good hunting there baut watch out for private land there.

Hope that helps

Is the turn off to that look out tower near a large sheep ranch? I'll look into Mule deer canyon and make sure I am on public land.

While you are down there hunting for deer the wild hogs are in that area. Contact the land owner and he will proably give you a key and tell you where they are, on public land they are open to hunt 24/7. Good luck.
Here is a Pic of Toby and Gene elk they got on the 2nd day.

Didn't know there were wild hogs in the area, I know they cause lots of damage and reproduce very quickly. Not sure which land owner to contact, some appear to be not so nice.

Just contact NMGFD,, they may be able to give you a contact numbers.
Now is the best time to kill them cause the fall tempertures have dropped all the folage so you can see them better, good luck...

I came back unsuccessful but Yappie Bob tagged a 8 point first day of the hunt. Seen plenty of Cow elk and calfs--had one so close to me could have hit it in the nose. The only mule deer I seen alive was a doe, by the road, waving good bye as we were leaving the Gila. We got to know the area a little bit more and seen a lot of kitty cat tracks which I didn't see 3 years ago when I hunted bull elk down there. There is always next year but had a blast with everyone.
