New to this site and have really appreciated the info regarding the mini atv's.
I am second guessing my earlier inclination of purchasing two 50cc Kazuma's after reading some of the review material.
I have 5yr and 6yr old boys and want to start them in riding.
I just cannot justify spending the money on the "brand-name" atv's, when I know they will only be on them for a couple of years.
Somehow I came in contact with Jackel, spoke with the sales manager and was told that their product is superior to Kazuma in that they use superior/Japanese parts such as carb, however, I believe that the engine may be the same. Per sales rep, the engine is the reproduction of the Honda Trail 50 from the 1970's. I remember these bikes very well as I got started on my brothers Trail 70. It was a great little bike.
I know the problems can't be engine design. Is it poor machining/workmanship? Or materials?
Also, I live in Colorado at 7600 feet. I told the salesman and he said he could change the jets prior to shipment. Said this would address altitude issue, but I wonder if the little motor could handle this altitude at all.
I really prefer to stay with a 4-stroke.
I've convinced my wife that they will not kill themselves and that I should be able to purchase a pair for about $1600 to $1800.
Any suggestions/recomendations/resources would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

aballard~welcome to the frontier !!
based on the info i have read and reports from techs ans owners it seems that kazuma does use the old honda designe but the materials they use are substandard by honda standards . the tooling is very poor quality .
we do hope to test some of the kazuma based quads in the future maybe we can learn first hand what is up . it seems you hear horror stories or bragging about these quads and nothing inbetween . ?????? buyer beware

Welcome aballard!
I would think real hard before buying two Kazumas, even if they have Japanese carbs on 'em. I've heard of some vibrating the carbs totally off!
You may have to spend a little more for better quads, but that is better than having two quads that sit because they are beyond repair.
Keep us posted on what you find.

Thank you,
Can you recommend any decent, reasonably priced 4-stroke 50's?

Since you are 'financially conscious', I would recommend buying two 90cc quads, limit them waaaayyyy down, and keep them under close supervision. They will outgrow a 50 sooner than you think.
As far as a four stroke 90 is concerned, the Kymco 90 is the best for the money that I've seen.

i would definatly recamend a 90cc quad .
the kymco is the best 4 stroke i have seen as well . with its clutch bushing limiter preventing the quad from exceeding 12mph as well as the cd limiter and the throttle limiter there is alot of room for growth and control . i also love the wrist lanyard kill teather .

aballard...welcome........you will find Doc and Wildcard great advisors and many others who frequent this forum.
I am still in the looking phase and for the price range you mentioned, you will certainly be hard pressed to find a decent 90 with good safety features. I looked at 50's for a while and you are still talking closer to 1K. For a little more you can get a 90...might want to consider the 70cc class, although I am no expert, but this seems to fill a nice niche and eton has a good rep on most forums.
Good Luck....and have fun looking!

Personally, I'd buy a 2 stroke unless you have regs like California. If I was really strapped for cash, I would consider a Sundiro90 (about $1100, GPX 90 (about$1200) or one like I bought...QJ MX100 ($900) and throttle it back.
The GPX has the best saftey features of the 3 (rear foot brake). Add s/h to these prices. I can vouch mine has engine parts and upgrades available through WRH or Hetricks Racing.
