went for a ride today stoped for a short break i reached down and touch the side cover opposite of belt casing and i actually burned my hand so after a few nasty words i touch the belt cover and it was nearly as hot as the other side now this is a brand new 2010 outlander 800 put a set of apache tracks on it i did not ear my fan come on and no warning lights came on either so what gives does the engine on this model usually get this hot any info would be great thanks.

p.s i was riding on compact snow mobile trails, yes i was going pretty fast about 70km

Sylvain, Whilst we don't get a lot of snow down here, I've had a lot to do with tracked machines.
Effectively the rolling resistance is a lot higher with tracks than with tyres. With tracks, the driving load can be easily compared to driving uphill all the time while towing with tyres. In other words, a lot of effort is required.
The auxilary cooling fan is for the motor, not the cvt.
At 70km/h, the airflow would be helping the motor stay cool enough, despite the load. Also at 70km/h, that is really hauling on tracks.
Nearly all the warning lights and sensors relate to the engine, not the transmission. Burnt fingers may be a good indication that the CVT is getting too hot. Smilie Colors1
Short term, I'd suggest that cruising at slower speeds might be the easy answer.
PM Gunny. By his vids and posts, he knows a bit about tracking.
The ATV's in the Dakar and our Rally have had various modifications to combat heat related CVT problems. Popcornsmiley

Was the CVT air filter accessory part installed over the air intake to the CVT area??

It is a component required when a lot of deep snow or highly powdery snow is being run in.

Got one on mine and it keeps possible snow from getting into the CVT belt area and then creating water.

That filter is installed with the track system and is removed when the tracks are removed and the wheels are put back on.
