Angus,

Just found the site and your post. You wouldn't happen to have a sm for a 2001 kodiak 400 by any chance would you?

Welcome to the Frontier ncryder.

I have the service manual for the 2003-2004 Kodiak 400. The only difference is the newer ones have drum brakes in the rear and no low range.

2003-2004 Kodiak 400 Service Manual It's about 18 Mb.

The manual for the 450 will give you info on the rear disk brake and low range transmission.

Thank you thank you, this will come in very handy this weekend.

I do have one question that you might be able to help me with. I bought this 2001 kodiak 400 used and the oil drain bolt is stripped out. It was retapped for a much larger 9/16 bolt but still leaks.

Any suggestions on how to fix? I thought about getting a brass oil drain plug from fumoto www.lubricationspecial...oductid=13
and welding it in but was told that you cannot weld brass to aluminum. I am stuck with a drip and need a good solid fix.

Go to your auto parts store and get a self tapping plug.

Hey folks, an old newbie here (57 Shocked ) and I successfully used the info on this site to score a pristine '05 Kodiac 450 - heck, it's still sitting on the trailer! Don't ask...

So, during my search I ran across this thread and I went to download the SM and the mirror states: Download server is down at the moment.
Please try again later in 10 minutes.

If I'm reading the preceding page correctly this has been since 15 Sept 2008.

The questions are: "1. Is the link dead? 2. Is there another one that I'm missing?

I know that I'm an old duff to you guys but, hey, I love riding! Yellow-biggrin

TIA,
Chiz

I had that problem. I cleaned the battery connections. One was loose. I sent you a pm as well. I think I can send you that manual.

Neil.

Thanks Angus for the manual. Just got me an 05 Kodiak 450 with 80 hrs and 350 miles. Ran it hard for first time yesterday. It backfired 3 times on hot engine after full throttle acceleration to 30+ mph and then letting off the throttle.

Is this a rich air/fuel mixture condition due to restricted air flow? Time for new air filter (it looks clean to me)? Should I adjust idle mixture screw in 1/4 turn?

Also, front brake pads gone and new ones on order. Is this normal for 350 miles?

Rear brake is total wimp and won't really stop me well. I'm thinking of bleeding this one once I get the front rack and plastic off (Panel C) to reach the reservoir. Any other reason it won't stop? It has some pad left.

Any other thoughts?

Runs great otherwise. New factory plug and new oil/filter. All stock.

Thanks.
