I think that the polling feature would only work if the radios were within RF reception range of each other. I would think that location data is transferred over the air interface.
I liked the idea of the Rhino, but the reliability and radio quality of the units that I have seen (110-130 only) have been less than expected when RAM mounted to the ATV. Maybe the newer 500 series (5 Watt US models) are better.
I went with an older Garmin 60C, but really notice the loss or partial loss of signal without the new more sensitive "x" chipset in the 60Csx. Signal loss is more prevalent on the heavily treed trails.

Thanks for the replies. I have narrowed down to the Garmin Colorado or Oregon. I actually like the Colorado better, but one online store is listing it as discontinued.......so that is cause for concern.
Thanks again for taking the time.
Now I just gotta find the money ........ but birthday is coming

Jeeter, which "on-line" store are you looking at? There are two here in Calgary that I've dealt with - both are good and have great prices....
PM me if you need to but I'd say the discontinued items are not much of a concern. I've got the older Vista CX from Garmin and Garmins still updates the firmware for it. These units are pretty much bullet proof (all the Garmins) and even if it's discontinued, you should still get a 1 year warranty on it when purchasing. Chances are that if it's going to fail, it will fail within that 1 year period (especially if mounted on a quad) and that would give you time to return for replacement....
BTW, I've bought 5 different Garmins from the 2 stores and have never had a problem with any of them (been owning a GPS since 1995) and the Garmins ROCK!!!!

I Emailed Garmin and they replied that they have NO plans to discontinue the Colorado. So now I just have to get the money together and see which one I like best the day I walk in the door. Should have it in hand my the end of next month.

I just went to Garmins website and compared the two:
Garmin Compare
The only thing about having a touchscreen that I could see is if you had the unit handlebar mounted (like mine) and it gets splashed and/or dusty and you have to clean the screen (could be like pressing buttons....)
Other than that, both units look good.... and accept maps!
I'll send you the mapping for Ghost and McClean areas if you want to upload.... (EDIT!!!! JUST LOOKED AT THE SIZE OF THE MAPPING AND IT'S <100 MB - TOO LARGE TO SEND. I'M TRYING TO FIND THE ORIGINAL SOURCES ON THE WEB AND WILL POST WHEN I FIND THEM)

I have had a GPS or 2 or 8 since 1997. Todays GPS's units are so much easier to use than the ones I started with. I currently have a Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx and a new Garmin Oregon 400t. Prior to the 400t I had a Magellan XL (got scrunched in wreck) that I really liked due to the LARGE screen size.
With the older models, they would take forever to get a satelite lock and then in heavy tree cover (CO Mountains) they would loose that lock and you would have no clue. The new models will keep a lock unless you walk into a metal roofed building. So far I have not done much riding with the 400t along, but what I have done, it is looking really good.
