Does anyone know if I have to remove the clutches to change a belt on the 2003 Vinson. If so are there any special tools to do this? Or do you just remove the large bolts that hold the clutches on? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The way to do it on a KQ is to use two bolts from the cover and screw them into the rear sheave equally. It forces the rear sheave apart, making it possible to get your belt off.

Here is a pic from a tech tip on nyroc showing this on a KingQuad. I'm thinking it should be the same for the Vinson.

Welcome to the Frontier and good luck snoproracer! Let us know how it turns out, especially if it's different from this Smile

Ah, That would make sense. I saw the four holes on the outside of the clutches and wondered if there was a special tool that you used to fit in those holes to hold the clutch while removing the bolt. But now that you explained using the bolts to open the clutch that would make more sense. I put the thing back together last night after inspecting the belt with 1000 miles on it. It still looks fine and I think that I will run it some more but I wondered how I would ever get it off if needed. Thank you very much for the info.

I have never removed my cover to check the belt I have about 5000km (Can't remember km for sure). Do I need a new seal if I take the cover or can I just use the old one?

Welcome to ATVF snoproracer. Nice to have new folks here in our little corner. Happy

vinny04.... maybe snoproracer would be able to answer you last ? about a cover seal or gasket.
Sounds like he's been in there before, and I'm not familiar with the Vinson.

Only if it's damaged should you need to replace anything. It's not as sensitive like a head gasket, if that's what you are thinking.

See the pic, you'll see the gasket. They are roughly $35 cdn.

Sure, Just had my cover off. After you take out all the bolts the cover is still seated pretty well. I put 2 phillips screwdrivers in the empty bolt holes and pryed gently out and worked my way around the cover until it popped off. The gasket can be re-used and is a metal cored gasket or something. Just be careful when you remove and you can easily reuse it. The cover has 2 pins to help you align it when re-installing. You do not have to remove the footpeg to get the cover off. You may need to push the brake pedal down and lift the back of the cover clockwise so it comes out over the front clutch.

Note: The back 2 bolts are longer then all the others. Just keep in mind for when you re-install the bolts.

Good luck, I have 1000 miles on my machine and do a lot of pulling logs and plowing snow and the belt looks really good yet.

Good Luck.

I doubt you will ever need to change one out on the trail................my buddy replaced his at 4,500 miles and it was working just fine at the time.
He was just getting worried and wanted Piece of mind that a new belt gave him.

I know not likely to have to change on the trail, but if you had to or be towed can it be done easily? On a popo I can do it in about 15 minutes, just curious about the suzuki?

thanks

It looks like a 15 to 20 minute job if you have the right tools and know what you are doing. I've never done it though...

Just a little clarification.

ive had my cover off twice... and its an absolute pain to get off without removing the two foot peg bolts.

You don't have to completely remove the foot beg assembly, but if you pop the two bolts off, or even loosen them so you can move it a little bit, helps.

For the amount of time that it takes to pull those things off... its a little less headache. I take the two bolts completely off, and move the foot peg out of the way completely. That cover is annoying at best.
