They are selling quite a few in Austraila, and I know 2 people in our town who have them. 250cc 2WD bikes. They have a manual clutch, and are very noisy, but am told have a fair amount of power. One guy had to replace the rear diff which was shaft drive and a real strange right hand drive set up. This bike is still running ok after @12 months of light use.
The other guys bike did 5km riding around his yard before major engine failure. He just parked it under the house in disgust. Yes they are a cheap bike and I guess so for a reason, they look cheap. I personally have spent the extra money and bought a proven quad that I know will start every time and perform well. The 4x4 quad you are refering too sells for $7500 in Australia, I bought a new 450kq for another $2500 (on a good deal)
Like a lot of stuff out of china, the quality is getting better and I'm sure as they evolve the Jianshe will too. One thing I have learnt from experience is "buy cheap....buy twice".

My 2 cents Giddy.

There's a place in our town that sells them as well. I actually stopped and took a look at the JS400 today. It is a Yamaha knock off and he was telling me there is a parts depot in Edmonton and it only takes a couple of days to get parts. I thought it did not look to bad for $5400.00. It also comes with a 2500 lbs winich and the nice looking rims. I know nothing about them but the dealer had them in front of his store and it caught my eye.
I also believe you get what you pay for! My question would be what is it would worth aflter a couple of years?
Here's there website : www.jianshecanada.com/..._JS400.htm

Fist of all, I own a Jianshe400. I have had it for a year, and with no problems. I use if for checking cattle, fencing and pleasure riding. This winter I installed a Warn 54" plow, and used it for clearing many driveways and blocks and blocks of sidewalks. This machine performed flawlessly even on days when the temperature dropped to -46 with the windchill.
It pushed lots of snow, (often heavy & wet) and never missed a beat. There are atleast 3 others locally that use JS400's for commercial snow removal, at schools, churches, condo's, etc. I know these people and they are happy with the machines.
If you take the time to do some research on the internet, you will find that JIANSHE is "NOT" a YAMAHA KNOCKOFF, but in fact, JIANSHE is in PARTNERSHIP with YAMAHA, and has been for many years. The huge sign outside the factory says JIANSHE YAMAHA CORPORATION.They build not only quads, but scooters and motorcycles also. Jianshe also are involved in many other fields, some vey hi-tech in their other divisions. So they are not a fly by night company. They will be comming out with some larger ATv's with fuel injection and IRS. There is rumor of a 450 or 500 and possibly a 700 comming. Just have to wait and see.
Jianshe may use some older technology and designs, the price may be less than the main line brands, but for your money, you get a good product for you buck. The JS400 Mountain Lion has a solid rear axle with shaft drive, combined with a 5 speed semi-automatic transmission, adn a 1- 7/8 trailer ball. I bought mine a year too soon and had to install my own winch, and got the standard painted steel wheels.
Jianshe builds many products under their own name, and also some parts for Yamaha. The only thing I found was when it was new out of the crate, it didn't run 100%, but after a phone call to the distributor, he sent out a new set of jets for the carb. Apparently they are built to run at sea level in China, the when we get them here, you have to spend about 20 minutes and change to the right size jets. Minor setback, everythiing else works great.
You hear horror stories about almost every brand on the market, but there is always a reason for failure. Occasionally it is due to quality, but more often to lack of maintenance or abuse. As far as buying Chinese brands, do your research, there are good machines out there. I seem to remember back in the 50's and early 60's when nobody would by Japanese made vehicles, the rest is history. The Chinese will have some brands that will become mainline names in the future. They all have to start somewhere, those that improve product and listen to their dealers and customers about upgrades, will survive, maybe at the front of the pack, who knows.
I have no intention of giving up my Jianshe any time soon, and I have just found out that my new 2008 MOTOBISHI 700 (ll) 2-up ,is supposed to arrive here at my dealer this week. I have read a lot of good reports on the 500's, and although not fuel injected yet (not always a bad thing), I believe they have a good reputation so far and we will be seeing a lot more of them on the trails in the future.

I can't say much for the jianshe js400 4x4 because I don't own one. But I do own a 2008 jianshe wildcat js250 and it is the biggest pile of s!*t I have ever rode in my life. The master cylinder failed after 10 miles, shocks are useless, the rims seem to bend riding over sticks. and it blows a fuse every hour and lost all dash function after 50 miles of operation ( speedo, and miles meter)
Not only did all this happen under warranty but the dealer I bought this from said he would take care of it and nothing (wholesale cycle akron ohio) I tried to contact jianshe Ameriaca and they moved back to china because of the bad economy. I haven't been able to find the parts I need and I regret not buying a reliable yamaha. buyer beware jianshe is junk. now i have to pull my old reliable yamaha 86 moto 4 out of retirement .

Hi, In answer to your Question regarding the Jianshe js 400 I can tell you from a Dealer perspective that they are a suprisingly well put together machine. We sell the Midwest wrx 400 which is identical to the Jianshe and after sales comebacks or repairs are almost non existant. They are all built on tried technology and in my opinion are as reliable as any thing on the market today. We have units that have been out for almost 2 1/2 years!!! and no problems. For a really good alternative check out the Midwest Canada site to see their line up of products as well.and remember they offer 6 months warranty on all their products, with a Dealer network in every province.

I'll add 2 cents to this one. I use to be a Midwest dealer. Absolutly no support to the dealer or the customer. If you bought it, it's your problem.
Unless Midwest has gone back to the Jianshe brand they are Jianshe knockoffs. (Yeah a knock off of a knock off) Warranty on these is false advertising! Everything was either the dealers fault or the customers fault. Had very little warranty claims because they didn't cover anything. The actual Jianshe is not bad for a knockoff. Unfortuatly it is prone to all the usual problems with quads made in China. The rubber in the, intakes, fuel lines, throttle cables and even the tires rot. There seems to be no UV guard in their rubber products. So if you use it in the sun be prepared to replace parts. The first thing to do is buy yourself a bottle of loctite. Take every bolt out and loctite it and put it back together. (If the treads didn't pull it first)
Actually the first thing to do would be not to buy a Midwest. Have a look at their track record. Most of all the original dealers have moved on to another brand or were forced to close their doors. I wonder why that is? We moved on to a small OEM brand with 40 + years in the biz, and haven't look back.
Sorry about this champ1. It's nothing personal. It's all about Midwest. Keep an eye on your wallet, they still owe me five thousand bucks!
