Well, I broke down and did it... got the boy a new/used 2002 Polaris Sportsman 90 in good shape. Would entertain anyones thoughts about maintenance, tips, limits etc. as I have little knowledge of either 2 strokes or chain drive quads. Everything else I've ever owned has been 4 stroke and shaft drive.

.
Fuzzman,
Congrats on your new / used purchase of your SP-90. Welcome to the world of mini quads and 2 strokes. Approx 2.5 years ago, I knew very little about mini-quads as well. Didn't even know which handle was the left and right brake lever. But, over time I picked up a few "lessons learned". In no time, you'll be as comfortable with a 2 stroke as many others. Sharing your "lessons learned" (not matter how silly it may seem) from you SP-90 is an excellent way to "help others" over come their learning curve. Reading many historical posts is another way to over come one's learning curve as well.
Again, congrats.

I ran across this post and decided to add my "2 cents" worth. my girls have the E-ton Viper mini 50. we LOVE it! my girls are 8 and 4....both ride it. My favorite feature is the remote kill switch - a must for new/little riders. It's only good up to 30 ft., but works like a charm. I use it to teach them to look where they're going. If their vision wanders to something it shouldn't, I kill the quad!
We have gone on trail rides with this lil machine and find the only complaint being the lack of ground clearance. I find I'm often lifting it up over rocks when it gets high centered. However, my 8 year old now knows to "avoid" big rocks all together!
I must tell you....this lil machine even survived a "spill" off my trailer! It was the only thing on my utility trailer driving down a gravel road on the way to the quadding site and the potholes/bumps got the better of it! The mini Viper took a ride in the ditch on it's own. I didn't know til I got to camp (can't see it over the box of my Avalanche)! Wow! Was I surprised. A couple of friends drove me back a ways to find the lil thing......it had landed on it's wheels and drove straight into the ditch, tie downs and all. WHEW!
Moral of the story: get mirrors to see lil machines on trailer! Or leave flag on quad while hauling.........or don't haul mini on trailer over potholed road alone......something like that.
ride (and travel) safe!

I am looking for a mini-ATV, preferrably built off (clone) of Polaris. Which one(s) should I be looking at? Thanks

I recently bought my son a 'Nusan T-rex 125 'apparently'second hand (at least that is what the seller told me - I have tried every avenue to confirm this on the internet but I can only find Nusan 90cc - Have I been duped? How do I find out for sure?
Nusan also makes Sundiro even if this quad is a 90cc is it at least a 'good one'
Please assist

Is there any reference to it being 125 on the model or serial numbers?
I am not familiar with many of the new imports. Maybe someone else can help .

I just registered because I found the information in this thread so helpful. I'm buying an 07 Yamaha Big Bear, and happened to mention to the salesman that I had been thinking about teaching my 7 yr. old son to ride. (I know - BIG mistake.) It turns out that I can get a pretty decent package deal on a Raptor 80 thrown in, including better interest. I had thought I would try to get off cheap by buying used, but I also have two younger daughters who could benefit as well. Overall, I feel I can get my moneys worth out of it.
Just one question though: On the Raptor 80, I know there is an intake restrictor as well as an adjustable throttle. Do these two speed limiters adequately restrict the speed for a beginner? I'd rather get the 80 than the 50 because it's a better quality bike overall, but not if it's going to be unsafe. My son has excellent motor skills for his age. (learned to ride a bike without training wheels on 4th birthday) So I feel he can handle it, but I'm not familiar with the Raptor 80 and I'm not sure I can trust the opinion of the salesman. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone checked out the JetMoto's?
We just started carrying this brand & we are totally impressed with the quality - these are not your typical "china" quality quads!
So far we have only had the 150 & 250cc's in and they are awesome units. The sport 150cc has a lot of pep for a 150.
Both models have hydraulic disc brakes front & rear w/ braided brake lines, camber adjusters off of the a-arms & removeable sub-frames. The 150 is fully automatic & the 250 is a manual clutch w/ adjustable air front shocks!
 Check them out: www.jetmotousa.com

I'm also in the hunt for a 90cc for the kids. I've looked at the SP90cc, Yamaha Grizz 80cc, and Artic Cat 90cc. My kids want a red one so that puts the yamaha out of contention, which was a plus in my mind since its price tag was $2899. It did have good suspension and looked to be shaft driven however. I liked the looks of the Artic Cat 90cc for a price just a little less than the SP90cc. This one is still on my list.
I want the utility looking 90cc instead of a race looking one. One that will hold up better for going on trails with me sometimes, if it makes a difference. The more I think about it though, I could get a 50cc and 90cc for both the kids to ride, instead of fighting over one, at a much lower price than one of those $2k brands. I hope doc and wildcard come out with the review before next month.
